"Crammed full of singles, slick production (natch), tight harmonies... but obvs. B’s star shines brightest. For me, the apogee of 90s pop/R&B (only rivalled by TLC’s CrazySexyCool and FanMail), and still an album I take out for a more-than-occasional spin some 20+ years since it first landed."  Reply

"A very psychedelic record for sure, somebody got that right. That's the right way to frame it. This record got slaughtered by critics and fans alike and Stevie was never the same, that's a plain fact. He thought he had earned enough credit with his previous albums--it was a cliche to call him a "..."  [+]  Reply

"I was beginning to doubt he had another great album in him, but by golly, he's done it again. And I dare say this is an even finer album than his debut. Sweet Saviour and Long Time Waiting are the immediate highlights for me."  Reply

"Classic Jim Steinman (the guy who wrote the songs for Meatloaf, Bonnie Tyler, etc) here. This whole album is full of that glorious, over-the-top bombast that is Steinman. There are some interludes, some filler, and a curiously out-of-place cover of The Doors' 20th Century Fox, but the high points..."  [+]  Reply
