This is really embarrassing. After so many years at BEA. I am still waiting for someone to sell it on a flea market.
Maybe it so brilliant that nobody wants to give it away. Confused

I've seen the cd plenty of times in charity shops. I'd be surprised if you couldn't get it for next to nothing through music magpie via amazon.

In The Aeroplane Over The Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel
The Wall by Pink Floyd
Exile On Main St. by The Rolling Stones

I've heard these before many years ago but I don't remember much about them. Going to check them.

These are my top recommendations that I've seen in this thread. I'm definitely biased because they're some of my favorite albums, but I think they all (especially The Soft Bulletin) have widespread appeal where people could find something to like in them even if they're not typically fans of that genre.

61 - What's Going On
85 - Illmatic (looking forward to this one, I just never feel in the mood)
93 - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
100 - Purple Rain

There are also some that I've listened once or twice and didn't really care about.

Several cool facts I've noticed:
Lowest rated top 50 album - 43. (What's The Story) Morning Glory? (81/100)
Lowest rated top 100 album - 69. Appetite For Destruction (78/100)
Highest rated 50-100 album - 59. To Pimp A Butterfly (90/100) !!! pretty interesting
Highest rated 100-150 album - 142. A Moon Shaped Pool (88/100)
Lowest rated 100-150 album - 135. American Idiot (73/100)

This is so interesting. I thought there would be more compulsive completists like myself on forums such as these, but I guess not. It's honestly kind of shocking to see how many classics some of you haven't listened to. I figured most folks on the forums would have at least listened to the top hundred, and most likely the bulk of the top thousand. And I thought there would be a few of you who had listened to most if not all of the top two or three thousand.

No judgment or anything. We've all got our different music listening methods. This just isn't what I expected.

Side question: What are your primary methods for music discovery?

For me (roughly in order of how many recommendations I get from each source) it goes like this:
1. Lists lists lists. BEA, RYM, acclaimedmusic.net, best-of lists for years/decades/genres/etc.
2. Further exploration of the areas of music I find worth exploring more. (e.g., if I find I like an album by an artist I'm not familiar with, I like to check out their other albums; or if I find myself enjoying a particular genre that I'm not very familiar with, I try to listen to other music of that genre)
3. Personal recommendations by friends and such.
4. Stuff that grabs my attention for whatever reason. (e.g., an album cover looks too good to not listen to; or a comment on a site like this one or RYM makes me think I'll probably like a particular album)
5. Random stuff. Radio, Pandora, etc.

And @Rhyner, def check out The Perfect Prescription and Mr. Tambourine Man. Think you'll dig them.

Will do. They're both on the "to-listen" list, but I'll bump them up toward the top.
I've never been head over heels for a Byrds album, but in my experience they're always pretty good. So that's what I'm expecting with this one--something worth listening to, but not too special.
I've never heard Spacemen 3 and know nothing about them. Looking forward to checking them out.

Since all of mine are so high on the charts, what are my top three oversights? I’ll listen to the most selected ones this week or next.

All of them.

Seriously. Listen to all of them. Why not? You might discover one or two or even ten new favorites.

But if I had to pick three, I'd include The Bends and Closer for sure. I'm not sure after that. It's hard to pick just three of those ten. Siamese Dream maybe? I say just go for it and listen to all of them. What do you have to lose?

baystateoftheart wrote:
@Rhyner I’ve heard two of those. Mr. Tambourine Man is a great album that helped lay the groundwork for jangle pop over a decade later. Awaken, My Love has one transcendent track (Redbone) and everything else is good but fails to measure up.

I've never been a big hip hop fan, and the Childish Gambino music I've heard already hasn't tickled my fancy, so Awaken, My Love isn't very appealing. Less so after your comment. I'm sure I'll check it out eventually since it is the highest ranked album on the site that I've not listened to, but I'm in no hurry. Thanks for the input.

Childish Gambino is a terrible rapper, and I haven't liked any of his rap albums. What makes this album good is that it's not a rap album at all. It's an r&b album and he's singing the whole time, which he's much better at. RYM classifies the album as Psychedelic Soul / Funk / Neo-Soul.

I think any albums that people mentioned on here that they haven't listened to should be used. I should have been more clear, it can be any of the albums people haven't gotten around to yet, but it seems, myself included, that most of these have been avoided due to people not liking the artist or genre.

I'll subject myself to Arcade Fire (that sounds more esoteric when I just wrote it out) if people are willing to do the same with something they haven't fully listened to. Or at all. I want to see Hayden's review of 10,0000 Days, and Seth's review of Red by King Crimson.
