Really good, one of the better Foo Fighters albums.

Favorites: Make It Right, La Dee Da, Happy Ever After (Zero Hour), Sunday Rain.

This is a sneaky good album. No crazy hit singles like “Everlong”, “All My Life”, or “The Pretender”, but there are definitely some cool songs throughout. Pretty consistent.

A good first listen shows there are no duff tracks but subsequent listens makes you realise there aren’t any slow burners that grow on you. On balance slightly closer to concrete than gold, solid but not sparkling - decent though.

I loved Wasting Light, but didn't get into Sonic Highways or Saint Cecilia. Was pleased that they followed up those two with Concrete And Gold.

When you feel inclined to use a phrase like "this is their best album since...", you know that it's been a long while since the artist's artistic peak. Such is the case with the Foo. PJ Harvey beat them to the punch of recording an album live in front of regular Joes, so they recorded this album sans gimmick which imo was great news. With Sonic Highways and double albums rocking vs. acoustic in their rearview, Grohl and company actually focused on the individual songs and Concrete+Gold is all the better for it. The standouts are the initial single releases but there's not a dud on the whole album, they all (alt) rock just enough or are just sincere enough to carry some emotional weight...and hook. (Yes, "Run" will remind you of their recent rock singles.) Like any artists with longevity, they'll never reach their artistic peak again, but this album's a good reminder of how good of an album Grohl's still capable of. Long live foo!

While I agree with A LOT of what AAL2014 said, somehow this album never really took off for me. Reminds me a bit of EPS&G... a bit all over the place. Some unique sounds from a band who has been pretty traditional in their arrangements. As a life long Foo fan, I can't disregard it completely and totally will be something I spin from time to time. A bit like new U2 records. Typically still strong releases, but a bit stale and old man sounding/bland, even if I still love them.

Worst track for me was Happy Hour (even though out of the norm for them musically, and was musically interesting). It lyrically was probably the worst Foo track ever.

Sunday Rain is Taylor's best performance, and possibly top 3 tracks on the album. Sky is a Neighborhood is pretty strong along with Run. Most tracks were above average, but I'd expect at least one 100/100 tracks on a Foo album and I just really couldn't give that to any track. Decent amount of 85 or 90 tracks though.

Produced by Greg Kurstin, Concrete and Gold is an honest pop-rock album. Some famous guests, like Sir. Paul McCartney at the drum, and a weird muddy mix.

Solid creative work from The Foos. The ending of the abum is quite epic.
