Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.6/100, a mean average of 75.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.2.

You know what you're getting with a Placebo album. One or two tracks will be absolute gems. The rest average or filler. With this I've found no filler which is a bonus, but the majority of songs except for a couple are stock standard. 'Slave to the Wage' being top pick for me. I do find the vocals a tad tedious by the end, a bit to much droning and whining. But that is the basis of Placebo so I should shut up. Overall, an average outing from them.

I've listened to all of Placebo's first 4 albums now, and this one is by far the weakest for me. My favourite tracks are Peeping Tom and Commerical for Levi, but none of the tracks really hit the heights of their other early albums.

Very solid and consistent, I enjoyed pretty much every song except "Spite and Malice".

It has already been said: this is probably something we heard when we were teenagers.

But for me, it has aged well I still hear it and feel they were something different from other bands. They created a sound based on textures and simple rhythmic patterns because Brian Molko's voice and delivery make the perfect counterpart.

And I do know Without You I'm Nothing Is the favorite one for Placebo fans, but to me, this one has memories attached.

my favorite Placebo album. i don't understand all the hate it gets. It has some of my favs like Commercial For Levi, Passive Aggressive and Days Before You Came. also the singles are amazing and singles-wise this is definitely the best of Placebo. also how can people hate Spite And Malice? It's amazing. i do have to say that it has a strong sentimental value for me so maybe I'm too influenced by that

This album reminds me of an ex who used to play it on loop in her car constantly, I used to think the CD was jammed in the player . One day I said “ Can I put something else on ? “ and she said “No” . Needless to say we didn’t last long after that.

Tiens ma fille (grande ado de 15 ans) écoute The Cure ??? Pas du tout , papa , le groupe s'appelle Placebo ...
C'était Without Your I'm Nothing .. Après pour départager avec Black Market Music , c'est dur , les albums suivants étant clairement un cran en dessous ...

Great alternative rock album. Best 10 songs average is 94,5/100 and the album can get great 95/100. I like the sound and the special voice of Brian Molko. Best song is "Slave to the wage" I'm rating at a max. Closely followed by "Special K", "Passive aggressive", "Black-eyed" and "Peeping Tom" all 95/100 and next "Spite & Malice" 90/100. Only low is "Haemoglobin".

I liked it when I was a teenage... now I see it's teen music. I can only support "Slave to the Wage" nowadays.
