Well, this was certainly a strange album. 'Given Up' comes on and I'm expecting this album to be terrible. The guy is screaming and swearing without no real reason. The next song does a complete U turn and is rather pleasant. Next you have Bleed It Out, which isn't as bad as 'Given Up', even a little catchy although it sounds like a demo. A song trying to sound like those on their previous albums. Next track I'm flung straight to the other side of the spectrum again where there is a truly beautiful song called 'Shadow Of The Day'. It sounds like something The Cure would write but has a slightly cleaner sound (even if clean sounds are not what you would associate with Linkin Park.) From then on the album is pretty good. Lots of nice ideas too, even if some of them don't work well at all (Like that robotic "Amen Amen" in Hands Held High). It never reaches greatness again until the final track 'The Little Things Give You Away'. A lovely heart felt track which I thoroughly enjoyed. Overall this a good album, one which is also better than there two previous. What I heard today is far from the image numerous people portray this band as. While there are hundreds of better artists, Linkin Park are miles ahead of the worst bands out there.

I really wanted to like Linkin Park. They seemed to be the intelligent cousin of Limp Biskit. Same aggressive catchy music, without the inane cliched lyrics. But in having a closer listen, they don't do anything different from album to album, and instead of juvenile sexist lyrics, they have whiny ones. Too bad.

Well, I'm a little bit biased, because this was my first album, I ever bought myself. So for nostalgic reasons I prefer it to other LP records.
It's just more diverse and doesn't bore me one second. We get (pop-friendly) ballads next to tight rock moments (Given Up), than there's experimental stuff (with gospel sounds, ffs). Mike Shinoda is amazing on here. I mean, I get that MTM is not what most people expected from them after these crushing first records, but damn, this is so underrated. My personal favourite is The Little Things Give You Away - bitterness can feel so great.

just as any other LP album its inconsistant but has enough good tracks to be worth your time

There are some decent rockers here as standard, but interestingly there also also some decent ballads. I think this is underrated and they pulled this off fairly well. It's a good album, though admittedly not great
The Little Things Give You Away is hugely under rated
