Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.1/100, a mean average of 71.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 5.4.

This must have been a fun experiment for vampire weekend and ra ra riot members Wes Miles and Rostam Batmanglij throwing a synth-heavy 80s music approach into the digi-grinder to see what came out the other end. This project, which seems a bit unlikely to succeed, actually began before those two groups came into existence. Amidst the cold, unfeeling synths and effects is some authentic-sounding emotion through some fine harmonies for guys (along with some guest appearances, including an auto-tuned ezra koenig), looped and processed through auto-tune to give this the soundtrack of a twitter-and-music-software generation. If daft punk weren't already signed up to soundtrack the tron remake, I'd nominate these guys. My favorite tracks are "so insane", the ra ra remake "can you discover?", "I wanna be your boyfriend", and "orange shirt". This album is just as good as albums from their respective groups, which doesn't surprise me.
