Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.5/100, a mean average of 68.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.8.

There are some good tunes here, a polished record.

Jeff Lynne's Beatle obsession gets reinforced here with stellar contributions from two former Beatles on two songs apiece (Ringo on "Moment In Paradise" and "Easy Money", George on "A Long Time Gone" and "All She Wanted"). Overall, it turns out to be the best E.L.O. album in decades.

Needs reappraisal, a handful of great tunes. In my own time, ordinary dream, melting in the sun and long time gone are right up there, only the schmaltz of a couple of ordinary ballads weaken the set

A solid effort that harks back to their better days, but with a bit less energy and a bit more of a bluesy feel.

ELO back after some years.
Nothing extraordinary but a good pop-rock album.
Better than apprehended.

ELO’s last album—and first in fifteen years—is really a Jeff Lynne solo record. (Only one other original member of the band appears, and only on one song.) The songs are compact, mostly under four minutes, and somewhat pared down, only orchestrated in tasteful spots. Overlooked at the time it was released, it’s a testament to Lynne that Zoom is also the band’s best record since Out of the Blue. Nothing revelatory here, just good old-fashioned power pop, but a far cry from the awful Balance of Power, with Lynne, the pop craftsman, maturing with grace. Best songs: “Alright,” “A Long Time Gone,” and “In My Own Time,” but just about all the songs have something to offer.

Style similar to the old ELO but that's not it. After all, it is worth a listen :)
