Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.6/100, a mean average of 71.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.5.

I clearly recall my sister got this album ( vinyl of course) for Christmas 1980. I’d never heard of Flowers and the how who and why she got this album under tree really is one of life’s mysteries considering we grew up in regional Australia in a time there was no internet and the local radio was as backward as you could ever imagine. Needless to say we popped ‘Icehouse’ onto the turntable and it was great and remains great some 41 years post

Is the song “Icehouse” one of Australia’s most unappreciated gems? Absolutely!

Flowers! Icehouse! This is the best album they done regardless of what you want to call them. Top half heavy with great songs. Second half so-so

When this first came out, the album was called Icehouse, by the Australian band Flowers. However, when it was released overseas they reversed the titles, to accommodate another band using the name Flowers.

One of my favourite Aussie groups, almost right up there but tends to flag toward the end after a great moody start with 'Icehouse' and the driving surge of 'We Can Get together' & 'Can't Help Myself'. Forget the Bowie/Ferry comparisons, Iva Davies is a talent in his own right.
