Biffy Clyro's 2009 release 'Missing Pieces' is a compilation of B-sides and unreleased tracks from their 2007 success album 'Puzzle'. It's a very mixed collection of less memorable, but equally experimental tracks. There are some progressive elements on this collection, which is why many of the songs would not have fit very well with the hooks and rhythms of 'Puzzle'. Songs from 'Miracle of Survival' to 'Scared of Lots of Everything' have an interesting progressive quality to them, while 'Asexual Meat Kitchen' is another post-hardcore era leftover. There are no really big standouts here, even though I kind of like 'I'm Behind You' and 'Hermaphfrofight', both of which are fine songs.
This album never lifts the same way 'Puzzle' did, which is mostly down to the pretty forgettable string of tracks compiled for the album. Other than the aforementioned songs, the BBC Radio 1 live cover of Rihanna's smash hit 'Umbrella' and the beautiful acoustic version of hit single 'Saturday Superhouse' deserve mentions.
