Eric Johnson, labelled here as (Pennsylvania) to distinguish him from other guitarist Eric Johnson from Texas, is a Jazz guitarist in the tradition of Wes Montgomery, Grant Green and George Benson and hails from Pittsburgh, PA. He has been at it for 40 years and "Makin' Whoopee" is his second album as leader. Prior to this effort Johnson has been featured playing along with Jack McDuff, Groove Holmes and Ramsey Lewis among others as part of their ensembles, concerts and recordings.
"Makin Whoopee" is comprised of 3 self-composed tracks, and 7 Jazz standards by the likes of Duke Ellington and Jimmy Smith and one can hear the influences of Johnson's mentors in his smooth playing and easy interchanges among his fellow band members. Speaking of his band, he features organist Dave Braham, drummer Cecil Brooks III, conga player Harold Jones, and reed-man Nat Simpkins (who also pulls double-duty as producer of this album). The music can be described as bluesy, funky and above all jazz.
"Makin' Whoopee" was released on Bluejay Records in 1997 (Cat# BJ 5002). More information about Eric Johnson can be found at his website http://www.fabalousej.com/ and his albums are featured at discogs.com

A lot of hard work happens in the background to keep BEA running, and it's especially difficult to do this when we can't pay our hosting fees :(
