This is really more of a retro 60s-psychedelia Velvets-influenced garage-rock type of album that got thrown in with the shoegaze scene mostly because of its timing (and by that I mean the release date, not their ability to keep up with their drum machine, which may be more problematic than the release date). Also, they're from Australia, where shoegaze bands were in rather short supply during the initial wave in the 90s. It's not bad, and they definitely have a distortion pedal or two, but the vocals are a big weakness here and the production sound is more lo-fi than it should be for the material. The songs are not particularly catchy or melodic, almost reaching the level of "drone" on several tracks - that's a not a criticism though, it's just something you should know. On the plus side, I was able to get through the whole album without any apparent damage to my eyesight.
