This is a fine album. Personally, I've never been that keen on The White Stripes, but I really do think there are some solid tracks on this album, all of which still works well as a whole.
People are haters with this album. It is difficult to play all the way through, as some songs just do not hold up at all (I'm looking at you 'Conquest'). I do feel, however, that the 'good' songs are REALLY great, which kind of balances the album out, I don't accept this as their Swan Song album though. I think they have a revival album in them somewhere, someday.....
With phenomenal albums like Elephant and the hugely underrated Get Behind Me Satan under their belt, The White Stripes are clearly one of our best bands. While not as strong as what it followed, it's still an impressive, occasionally nuts album that finds Jack White almost completely unrestrained. Conquest is one of the weirdest damn songs I've heard since anything on John Wesley Harding. His maniacal guitar work reaffirms his status as one of the best guitarists, well, probably ever. Highly recommended.
I like the sound of the album and the way they have infused folk with a rawer garage sound. My favourite of the White Stripes albums: Favourite song is 'Icky Thump'
