Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 67.6/100, a mean average of 66.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 66.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 19.6.

A strong improvement over their comeback record, Unlimited Love, which, while a very pleasant listen, doesn't dare to try anything new. In contrast, Return of the Dream Canteen is a much more experimental and daring record, that sees the band craft some of their best melodies in recent years, in songs like Tippa My Tongue, Peace and Love, Fake As Fu@k, Bella, The Drummer, Carry Me Home, and the absolute home run that is Eddie.

It's obviously not one of their best albums, probably their worst one since Mother's Milk in all honesty, but to be fair, they released pretty much 2 double albums in the same year, around 40 years into their career. So it's a great achievement to release two decent albums given those circumstances. Eddie is absolutely incredible, would definitely feature in a RHCP greatest hits album but unfortunately it's the only one off this album that would do so. Still, a legendary band and I enjoyed this.

Recorded during the same sessions as Unlimited Love but somehow it's not even close to being on that same level. Maybe it's just too much Chili Peppers too soon and a lot to take in? Perhaps but for me this is the most disappointed I've been by them.
