Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.8/100, a mean average of 66.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 68.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.3.

Millions around the world become aware of rap because of rappers delight. Some love it that much that they want to hear an albums worth of it. So Sugarhill records issues this which is regarded as the first hip hop album, only to fill half of it with shitty half arsed r n b. they could have put the long version of the smash hit on and left off some of the shit. I imagine people being puzzled when they first put the needle to side one and thinking they'd been given the wrong record. Seems a bit unfair to criticise too much all considered. They probably didn't have enough material for more rapping. Maybe they should have gotten hank to go over to mr caz fly and actually purchased some lyrics from him.

Have you ever went over a friends house to eat, and the food just aint no good?
I mean the macaroni's soggy, the peas are mushed, and the chicken tastes like wood...
