Very pleasantly surprised by this album. It starts off brutally with an intense opening track, but the transition into the next two songs is so well constructed that, after a few listens, the whole thing starts to make perfect sense. The flow between the first four tracks is especially seamless. It all unfolds so naturally that you barely notice how carefully it’s been put together.
The drum sound can get a bit annoying at times though. There’s a lot of reverb, the toms are huge and very separated in the mix, and the snare sits extremely far forward. It’s not a very natural drum sound. But in the end, it still works. The drummer is incredibly tasteful and clearly very skilled, and he never gets in the way of the music.
There’s a really nice balance between the different sections throughout the album. Everything flows effortlessly. Really solid record.
Sounds like Porcupine Tree in Master's Apprentices for a while. Predicts the album Storm Corrosion well! This is a fun ride indeed!
