Pop excellence this is not. After the staggering, uncompromising "Impossible Princess", Kylie retreated artistically with "Light Years", her move back to mainstream blandness. Congratulations, it was a commercial success, but you just lost all of your artistic integrity which she would only embrace on "Body Language" again and nothing else.
"Light Years" marks a return to more mainstream pop after the commercial failure of her vastly superior album "Impossible Princess". There are some impressive tracks on here like lead single "Spinning Around", but mostly it sounds like Kylie and her producers played it far too safe and the record marks the beginning of a regression of what could have been a truly exciting career.
Nonetheless, "Light Years" has its moments and is filled to the brim with fun, humorous camp. It's just I can't help but feel disappointed when none of the tracks compare to ones from her 90s indie period like "Confide In Me" or "Did It Again". Ah well, it does its job.
Another clean pop record in the 2000's that wasn't an ear soar and had fun and was varied. Close to the same league as George Michael's Patience and Madonna's Confessions On A Dance Floor. Will venture into more Kylie. Good first impression.

Good dance-pop/europop/nu-disco album. Best 10 songs average is 86,3/100 and the album can get good 85/100. Best songs are "Your disco needs you", "Kids" and "Light years" all 90/100, followed by "Spinning around" and "On a night like this" both 85/100 and next "So now goodbye", "Disco down" and "Please stay" all 80/100. All other songs average 75/100.
