When this guy busts a hit, it sounds simple but ultra catchy, built from the guitar and melody -on-up like on the stellar track "tokyo". He's kind of like Josh Ritter (I can hear Ritter singing "look to the east") that way except he doesn't have the lyrical chops of Ritter and keeps the production simpler. His voice can sound plaintive at time like Elliot Smith on the slower numbers, but mostly it's full-ethanol-ahead on this solid debut.
