I like Levon, but this is just dull, obvious, garden variety musical purism with nothing new or fresh to bring to the table. If you have even a passing familiarity with traditional folk, blues, and country musics, then you will have heard stuff that sounds exactly like this a million times before. So why all the fawning praise for something so pointless?
As solo Band members go, I'll take Robbie Robertson's oft-maligned (but much more interesting) pop "sell-out" material over this any day.
