A better idea in theory than in practice, Chickenfoot isn't that good of an idea in theory either. Besides the presence of Joe Satriani's seemingly limitless chops, there's really nothing interesting going on with any of this bland Viagra-stimulated cock rock. Worse, Chickenfoot apparently didn't get the memo that the loudness wars were over. The production leaves everything to be desired. Listening to Hagar bellow out unintentionally hilarious lyrics like "She's got back and up front, she's anything a country boy needs" ("want" was right there for a feeble rhyme attempt, by the way) at a full-volume rectangle-shaped waveform is definitely something that nobody should have to experience in their lifetime.
Musical masturbation at this level should have been outlawed in most states by 2009, but that didn't stop Hagar and company from turning out another instant, um, "classic" of self-gratification.
Really fun debut record from this supergroup. The lyrics admittedly leave something to be desired, but Joe Satriani playing in a non-intrumental band makes this a very welcome listen. His playing is easily the standout of the record.
