This album marked a turning point in the Tangerine Dream musical direction. The introduction of Johannes Schmoelling to the band seemed to bring a more melodic way of working and subsequently some classic albums for the next stage of the explorative journey which locked bullet proof electric drum tracks to the bass sequences. Previously the drums had been played live or there had been no drums.

My favorite Tangerine Dream album. I had heard their work before but this was the first album I bought. I remember opening the shrink wrap, placing the album on my turntable, and playing it loud - no one was home and the weather was stormy and raining. It created an atmosphere I cannot forget. Because of this their classic output of the 70s Phaedra, Cyclone, Ricochet, Rubycon, etc. is iconic and I love everyone of these albums but Tangram will always be the first.
