Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.7/100, a mean average of 72.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.3.

This album sounds good, albeit being aimed towards pop scenes. three great songs, there are...
Sammy Hagar one of the best vocalists Ive ever heard but he suits a grunge band. He is a better singer than David Lee Roth but I prefer DLR as the front man, the greatest showman in American rock music. Some great tracks here .

The Debut of VAN HAGAR was awesome. Loved this album growing up!

I had the single "why can't this be love" and played it endlessly, loved it. I then had this on tape and hearing it again now after more than 30 years, it's mostly forgettable. Nothing much has stuck in the memory bar the odd thing. I mean it's alright but 1984 is much more memorable and listenable and just better. Mate I listened to 1984 a lot more. Dreams is cheesy too. Mind you memory says this is better than the next album that I got for Xmas 1988 instead of the Jungle Brothers album I asked for.
The first of the Hagar era produced a couple of classic Van Halen tunes. "Why Can't This Be Love" and "Dreams" are up there with the band's best tracks. However there is some filler on here and Eddie's guitar seems like it's farther back in the mix. Maybe one of the better Hagar albums but I'd take almost any of the David Lee Roth albums over this one.
In my opinion this was the last decent Van Halen album. The consensus in the music world being that Van Halen without DLR would be like Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant, i.e, that it would be the end of the journey. Despite that fact Van Halen delivered a cracking album with a more radio friendly edge. If I had to think about the music for summer it would include 'Dreams', 'Why Can't This Be Love' and 'Best of Both Worlds' after this album, apart for the compilation 'Best of Both Worlds' Van Halen ceased to exist for me and I moved into David Lee Roth solo works which are also excellent in their own right.
Best Van Hagar album, despite it being the most poppy Van Halen album. Solid work, though a little synth-heavy
Van Halen goes pop with some stunning songs, especially Love Walks In, Dreams, and Why Can't This Be Love.
I remember what a major controversy it was when the VH brothers decided to move on from David Lee Roth. After all, this was one of the most iconic bands of the late 70's - mid 80's. Wouldn't the quality of the product inevitably suffer?
Well, at least for one record, the new line up delivered. The material here is as strong as anything they released previously (although it wouldn't be a VH record without a few clunkers thrown in). Purists may disagree, but IMO this is a classic.
Underrated by Van Halen purists. Some great rock and pop songs on here.
