This album received a shamefully unfair pasting in Allmusic and I quote"

"it's often shambolic and listless, providing just the merest suggestion of why Chilton is so revered by so many. Live performances are rarely Chilton's forte -- he's so moody that he's either good or terrible -- but Live in London captures him at his weakest"

Really ? I don't think so . yes its loose and yes there might be only 30 punters watching but that's not the point . The point is its Alex Chilton and he plays a selection of legendary tracks from the 3 phases of his career (Box Tops , Big Star and Solo) as well as his usual inclusion of obscure cover versions yet again demonstrating his encyclopedic music knowledge

Shame on you Allmusic ! This album is a gem from a once in a lifetime performer

Alex Chilton had 3 careers, first as a teen idol with the Box Tops , then as innovative genius with Big Star and finally a solo career that spanned Rockabilly to crooning. This set captures AC from his 3rd incarnation

This album was unfairly slammed in an Allmusic review describing it as lose and shambolic , completely unfair

This album is indeed rough around the edges but that’s what gives it a certain charm and endearing quality

Chilton displays here his almost encyclopaedic music knowledge with some very obscure song covers as well as playing tracks from all 3 career phases: “ The Letter” ( Box Tops) , “September Gurls “ , “Nighttime” , “ Kanga Too “ ( Big Star) , “Bangkok” ( solo) as examples

TBH for such a long career there isn’t much Alex Chilton material out there so what there is needs to be treasured and fully appreciated and this album is no exception

Simply wonderful
