Santa Monica, California, natives Cayucas put me through a period of considerable confusion by first releasing a really good single, "Cayucos," under lead vocalist Zach Yudin's stage name Oregon Bike Trails, then re-releasing the same song under the band name Cayucas. But I think we've got it straight now. This is really strong California sunshine pop, somewhat in the vein of Vampire Weekend and/or the Beach Boys, but perhaps a little less ambitious. Great melodies and harmonies, with catchy hooks and an overall affable vibe. Definitely a band I'll be looking out for in the future, to see if they make any effort to expand their sound.
