Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.3/100, a mean average of 70.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 26.3.

Overall a very strong set, but some of the shorter songs have better recorded performances elsewhere. That being said, this set does contain the best recorded performances of Pass It On (Straight Ahead), and Voodoo Child (Slight Return). Pass It On is one of his most incredible openers to a set ever. Hey Baby (New Rising Sun) is fine, but the best version is to be found on the Live at Maui set. Lover Man here is a lot of fun (especially with the Flight of the Bumblebee motif) but has a few sloppy moments. Machine Gun is great but not as mind meltingly spectacular as the 3rd and 4th shows from the Songs for Groovy Children boxset. The rest is pretty standard for Hendrix.

Between the great version of Voodoo Child (Slight Return) here and released performances from the early Berkeley set - the Johnny B. Goode (found on The Jimi Hendrix Experience purple box set) and "Hear My Train A Comin'" (found on the Jimi Hendrix "Blues" album's final track) performances - it's clear Hendrix was really feeling inspired on these recordings to play at the top of his abilities. If given a time machine, I'd probably go see Hendrix either at these sets or the new year's eve Band of Gypsys sets. Jimi Hendrix in 1970 on his Cry of Love tour with Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell backing him is to date the greatest rock 3 piece ever, and no act has ever come close.
