Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 14% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.5/100, a mean average of 75.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.7.

Freddie's only solo pop LP. It's an enjoyable album, as you would expect from Freddie Mercury, but even though the songs are good, it certainly is a product of it's time, in terms of delivery. There's hardly any guitar here, it's basically a poppy synthesizer record. Living on my own, is the most well known track, a posthumous No:1 for Freddie in 1994, albeit in re-mixed form. I was born to love you, was a No:11 hit, which preceded the release of this album, and is again extremely poppy, Queen re-made the song for their, made in heaven, record, both are enjoyable. The song, made in heaven, itself, was another song Queen re-recorded for the album of the same name, the Queen version wins hands down. There must be more to live than this, was originally a duet sung with Michael Jackson, eventually released on Queen's, forever, compilation, the version here is far superior. Other standouts are, let's turn it on, foolin'around, and the beautiful closing track, love me like there's no tomorrow. All in all, a fun record, but hampered by that eighties sound.
