Neko Case has the kind of voice that I wish Nashville appreciated--a throaty, smoky, belting-out vocal wail that's too big, too theatrical, and ultimately too powerful to accommodate the generic tripe that passes for mainstream country music. So she's been relegated to the "alt" side of the country aisle, where she cranks out seedy murder ballads and ambivalent tributes to her hometown of Tacoma, Washington. My favorite song here is "Whip the Blankets," a loud rave-up featuring Neko at her most fiery, desparate, and defiant.

One of the best voices, and it's a great album. Neko Case is a queen.

not a great album, but she has IMO the best voice in pop music today.
