No musical over complications. Closest thing they've done to a classic/stoner/groove metal sound. Even verging on a mild doom vibe at times. My favorite Mastodon album.
Lo volvió a hacer Mastodon en 2014 con su sexto disco de estudio, demostrando que son una máquina bien engrasada y sin apenas fallo en la pecera. Con una portada psicodélica como telón de fondo, los de Atlanta siguen la senda marcada por 'The Hunter', ganando en accesibilidad todavía más, pero también en confianza y fiabilidad a la hora de fabricar grandiosas canciones de Sludge de corte progresivo. No es nada fácil hacer lo que hicieron estos chicos con 'Once More 'Round the Sun', pues sus movimientos eran seguidos cada vez desde más cerca. A pesar de potenciales singles como "The Motherload", "High Road" y, especialmente "Ember City", el verdadero petróleo de este disco se encuentra en su conjunto como tal, ubicándose las canciones en un contexto en el que la existencia de unas no tendría sentido sin la existencia de otras.
My first Mastodon experience, but I like the dense layering of harmonies and riffs.
May not be as good as some of their earlier stuff, but still really good. High Road, Motherload, Chimes at Midnight are great, to name a few. Some tracks on the second half lose my interest a little, but overall this album is worth a listen if you like metal and Mastodon.

As someone who loves their earlier stuff I have to say this is just as good. Leviathan and Crack the Skye are still at the top but this still great. In particular I loved High Road.

On 2011's The Hunter, Mastodon shed their sludge roots and their recent progressive tendencies, shifting to a straightforward hard rock sound. On this record, they bring back a bit of the prog, but are still leaning heavily on catchy riffs and choruses. It hasn't done much to appease fans of their early work, but I like it.

Sounds great to me, I'm having this after a few cans. Not keen on the earlier stuff, I prefer this to be honest. Thought the previous album was good but this is much better. Might just go and see them.
