Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.6/100, a mean average of 70.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.2.

Arguably the best Maiden album if it comes to epic songs, some "catchy" songs like Wildest Dreams or Gates of Tomorrow, but also real gems. Paschendale and the title track are maybe two of the best songs Maiden ever made.
The cover is still awful ...

It makes me sad to see this album ranked behind "the Final Frontier" and especially "Senjutsu", its possible to argue about the ranking compared with "The book of Souls" but worse than "Senjutsu"??? Thats just unfair.

O Iron continua forte. Álbum bem agradável de se ouvir, não com muito hinos, mas todas as fachas próximas em qualidade!

My favourite Maiden album since Bruce and Adrian’s return. ‘Paschendale’ is one of the greatest songs they have ever created. ‘No More Lies’, the title track, the underrated ‘Montsegur’, the punchy ‘Wildest Dreams’, the catchy ‘Rainmaker’ are all excellent songs.
Some dismiss this album because of the awful cover, but they are missing out on a feast of modern Maiden classics.

Probably the weakest of the albums Iron Maiden have made since the return of Bruce Dickinson. Some enjoyable tracks, although the title track is one of the most hilarious songs i've ever heard, I don't know if Maiden were being sincere here, I think they probably were, I'm in tears every time I hear it. If you haven't heard it yet, try keeping a straight face when you do. As for the rest it's all enjoyable enough, but they don't seem to be able to write those short punchy anthemic metal tracks like they used to. They're much more proggy now, which is fine, but I miss those classic songs. And, yes, I agree, terrible cover, the worst of Maiden's career.

The only disappointment is the album cover. Yuck.

Advertised by the faithful as the band that keeps on giving, it is easy to see why this band don't disappoint. They keeping on giving. Forever. If you don't like their music you are not finding anything you like here. This isn't them doing anything different, an experiment so to speak. You get an Iron Maiden album. And by their standards, this one holds up well. 'Age Of Innocence' is fantastic rage against those who might deceit... or do already deceit. Fiery would be a great word to describe this album. Straight from the volcano into the laser oven you'll play it. Crashing in like 'Losfer Words' evil cousin comes 'Montsergur' proving this album is as loud as you get them. 'Rainmaker' is another show stopper. Turning it down ever so slightely, Iron Maiden show the hooks gleaming in this treasure piece. As I said, nothing really deviates from the standard, not that it matters as most of it good standard. Well actually... there is this one song called 'Journeyman'. Final one and this is an interesting case we have today detective. An Acoustic song? By Iron Maiden? An acoustic song... by Iron Maiden!? YES INDEED! "I do what I want and say what I want, and no can take it away" well if that is not describing Iron Maiden then throw my egg and mayo sandwich away. We have a mystery.
