Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.3/100, a mean average of 71.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.0.

Everything Counts is catchy pop, but like the last couple of albums there's still a lot of room for maturity here.

The environmental themes are a bit half baked and the lyricism is still growing but Construction time shows Depeche Mode moving in the right direction.

Depeche Mode's third album, is one of their albums stuck in between their disposable pop sound and their more arty and serious albums to come. It's ok, but certainly not one of their best, although it includes an essential track in, everything counts. The rest is fine, but looking back this was clearly a transitional record. Not bad.

If this is a middling Depeche Mode album, then I'm gonna be in heaven for the next week, because they're all I'll be listening to. it's all layers of synth riffs, pads, drum machine, and strange noises. I think they're using ping pong balls on 'Pipeline', and I love it.
Top Tracks: I can't choose, honestly, they're all so layered and pretty and intriguing.
Eh Tracks: More Than a Party

It's alright, but it pales in comparison to what would come next.

The point where I got into Depeche, true, there are some weak songs but hating on it is a bit like criticising your childhood teddy bear for having bad stitching. Leave it alone!!

Starting to sound more like the Depeche Mode we know and love but the songwriting just isn't there yet.
