Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 12% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.4/100, a mean average of 74.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.2.

May not have the "classic" vibe of Diesel and Dust, but I think Blue Sky Mining is superior, truly Midnight Oil's finest. Songs are more varied, catchier and more passionate.

Standouts ; Blue Sky Mine, Mountains of Burma, Shakers and Movers, Antarctica.

Big MO fan but I've never understood the hype around this album , the only track I love is 'One Country' with the remainder so so . lyrically great , musically disappointing.

This is one of my overall top 100 albums which you can check out with additionele comments.
Although the predecessor of this album "Diesel and Dust" is maybe better known, this "Blue Sky Mining" is certainly the best of the Australian band Midnight Oil.
Although Peter Garett is maybe not the best singer and maybe the preacher in him is sometimes a bit too present, there is something magical about the songs on this album, going from the somewhat symphonic sound on tracks like "Shakers and Movers" to very energetic tracks ready for stadion rock singing like "Forgotten years".

In 1990 they pushed it on the cover of the "famous" "wom magazine" - and I bought it!!!

One Country was a beautiful Oils song that stands with anything they ever did together.
