If anyone else sung these songs (lyrics wise), there's a chance I wouldn't be interested. Mr. Cash had soul that transcends.
I find it hard to listen to this collection of albums. Not because they are bad, they're just so honest and emotional. (Edited)

His voice reminds me of how Billie Holiday's sounded on her final album. You can tell that he knew the end was near a very emotional album.

Johnny Cash's voice sounds thin and strained, but it adds to the tone of the album. Very reflective. A bit flat at times.
