Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 58.9/100, a mean average of 57.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 57.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 24.2.

I consider this significantly better than both "Loud" and "Good Girl Gone Bad'. Standout tracks are mostly "Russian Roulette" and secondly "Te Amo". Overall, 40/100
This collection had less hits than the platinum selling release that preceded it, but it delivers the expected results with less poppy material - still it seems to be a grouping of singles rather than a unified album. Rihanna still sings in her pseudo-reggae inflection and the beats have a dub theme. Didn't really take to the single "Russian Roulette", but a consistent effort. Unlike other current albums where I find myself watching the clock hoping the songs get over soon, this album's running time seemed to pass by quickly and was enjoyed throughout.
Am a huge fan of Rihanna and a slight crush and lucky enough to meet her too. Her RnB style is infectious and stylish. This album works really well together with some very dark hidden messages from her own experience of a bad relationship with clever beats and some great cameos by Slash and Will I Am. Some great upbeat tracks too. This is an album I have listened to many times and still enjoy today. I believe it deserves better praise and is her most complete album with a great intro and ending with great variety that work together. Her other albums Loud and Anti also works really well as a complete album. I think she deserves more credit than she is getting.
Menos superficial que alguns de seus outros álbuns.
It's just that her trying to be sexy has a negative rather than positive effect on me, as if she's trying to mask her mediocre songwriting ability. And Rockstar with Slash is probably one of the worst things of 00s, it's like she doesn't know what she is anymore. I prefer her solid pop songs to tryin to be cool collabs. Not that bad as my comment may sound, but still did nothing for me :/
Perhaps the most fascinating pure pop record of the 00s, Rihanna gets icier and a bit self-consiouscly more gothic and grandiose on this record, to mostly positive results. Of course the well-documented personal turmoil does seethe through the record, more than a bit awkwardly at points, but her best moments when she mixes her trademark misty, bouncy sexiness and a more flamboyantly operatic atmosphere (especially on the "I Kissed a Girl" deconstruction of "Te Amo"). Despite the serious things going on in Rihanna's life at the time Rated R is best enjoyed as a deliciously decadent, overstuffed desert
Dunno why this album has received so much hate on this site, "Rated R" is probably Rihanna's best album (although "Anti" may top that if I listen to it a couple more times), it represents a huge step forward from bright, sunny mediocre pop to a darker, more mature collection of pop songs.
"Russian Roulette" is a daring choice for a lead single, so dark and gripping. You can even feel the cold, lonely vibes on super catchy upbeat tracks like "Rude Boy".
As with any pop album there are stronger and weaker tracks, but compare this to the output of other global pop stars in 2009 and you'll see that this album shines brighter. Not brilliant, but a pop album worth 50 minutes of your time.
