Sink or Swim is the debut album from Gaslight Anthem. The group originated as orgcore (an unofficial genre classified by popular albums on the site Punknews.org) and make a wonderful energetic set here. Acoustic folk gems are found at the end of each side: Red in the Morning and Red at Night. They would never again be so lively.

Completely agree with NoAlarms on this one. I am constantly going back and forth on whether I prefer this or '59 Sound (not a huge fan of Gaslight's output after their first two).
Incredibly consistent throughout, and the slower tempo acoustic tracks at the midpoint and the end work nicely. Lyrics are a bit vanilla at times, but I enjoyed some of the musical references to Clash, Dylan, etc.. Favorite part might be the heavy/soft juxtaposition of 1930 and the Navesink Banks back-to-back, or the outro to Angry Johnny.
