Greg Brown has always been a songwriter's songwriter, a musician's musician, and a staple of the NPR Music crowd who never really expanded his audience beyond those core constituencies, and never really seemed to care to. He is a warm and self-deprecating storyteller, both in his audience banter during live shows and through his songs. In my early twenties I lived with a group of friends and co-workers in a white clapboard farmhouse in rural Maine, and this album was probably the one that received the most play on the little portable stereo while I was living there. All these years later, Greg Brown's deep baritone and distinctively bluesy acoustic guitar style remind me of those days of red wine, laughter, roadkill carcasses (it's a long story), and afternoon light filtering through dusty windows.

A lot of hard work happens in the background to keep BEA running, and it's especially difficult to do this when we can't pay our hosting fees :(
