Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. As I mentioned recently, I think that I could put "Testament", "Staircase", "Facing You", "Tokyo Concert' or "Radiance' ahead of "Black Saint", but just by a hair..I am a pianist so there is that bias, but Mingus' compositions are so amazing and then there are his arrangements of those pieces and the musicians that he has gathered around him to pull it all together that makes his music so astounding. A great place to start for a budding jazz lover.

An amazing album, check out "part 6" at the Royal Festival Hall and "Part 7" at the Salle Pleyel...classic Keith Jarrett.
