Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.7/100, a mean average of 72.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.1.

Can't say it's my favourite Strokes record - not by a long shot. But good on them for doing something different, and there are some awesome songs on here, for all that it's too long. The first four songs are great, especially YOLO and Razorblade and there's some other solid tracks on here. Fun listen.
Después de 2 grandes albums como "Is this it" y "Room on fire" The Strokes cambia su sonido "garage rock" por una nueva dirección, yendo mas hacia lo "new wave", sin dejar claro, su estilo rock/alternativo. First Impressions Of Earth comienza fuerte con "You Only live once" y "Juicebox", pero poco a poco se va callendo con pistas repetitivas e intrascendentes.
English review:
After 2 great albums like "Is this it" and "Room on fire" The Strokes change their "garage rock" sound for a new direction, going more towards "new wave", without making their rock/alternative style. First Impressions Of Earth starts off strong with "You Only Live Once" and "Juicebox", but gradually winds down with repetitive and inconsequential tracks.
There is room for improvement on this record but there is still some of the groups best ever songs present on here. The first 6 songs are just non-stop energy and pure Strokes brilliance with them all being extremely infectious and catchy. They are definitely up there amongst some of the best songs they have ever made in my opinion especially Razorblade which I just can't get enough of. The Strokes are just the masters of simple but effective with nothing ever being over complicated but it is still genius the way they can hook us and make their sound lodge itself in our minds. It does slow down after these first 6 songs with there being a few filler tracks from this point up until the conclusion. Those filler songs just seem to lack the energy and style you expect on a Strokes song which does lead to some quite poor results. However, there are still some underrated gems hidden amongst them such as Fear Of Sleep, Electricityscape and Ize Of The World. Overall, I don't think the quality drops off as drastically as some people like to claim but there is a drop off and that does hold this record back from their other more consistent and cohesive records but it is still an elite level album in my opinion.
Maybe could have done with cutting a few of the weaker songs, but I think it's a very solid album. The first two tracks are brilliant - Juicebox and You Only Live Once (my favourite Strokes song). I also really like Ize of the World.
Has a few meh songs but overall still a very solid record
J'adore cette Album, pour c'est leur meilleur, du Strokes survitaminé !
My least favorite by them. Not a fan of the direction they took here.
Some of their best tracks are on here... but as whole, compared to their other work, not a great record. Just okay.
Some of their best, some of their worst. Underrated by some, overrated by others. As an album, this is good. A lot of weak tracks but a lot of amazing tracks too. It works waaaay better as a playlist tho, just keep the good ones and forget the worst ones exist.
I do actually like most of the songs, but it was not at the same level as their first two records and the second half of the album the quality drops.
