Okay I don't think every single track is a knock out - but I like them all, and love You Only Live Once; Razorblade; On The Other Side; Ask Me Anything; Electricityscape; Killing Lies; Fear of Sleep. So that's 7 excellent tunes on one album

From contra
To me, this is the Strokes' best album. It was the one that got me into the band and they are now my favourite of all time. Every song is so important to me and I really don't understand the hate the album gets (although I may be biased as this was one of my favourite albums growing up).

Favourite tracks: You Only Live Once, Razorblade, Red Light, Ize of the World

This is without a doubt The Strokes' best album in my mind. It's the first album where you can really hear some skills from the guys, where you can hear more than just raw energy. And the great thing is, the energy is still there! But now, it's more focused. The songs are still catchy, but there are now more levels to each of them and every listen will give you something new to discover.

And I also really like the lyrics on this one. There are multiple ways to interprete them, but I really feel like Casablanca is trying to understand what's under the surface, trying to find out if there is something more after being cool. It looks like he's finally human, like the whole band is human, not just cool kids that are part of the last trend.

I really like this album, but if you're more into "Is This It", you might not agree with me and I understand. Those 2 albums are really different! But you can count me on the FIOE team!

Liking the sound, slight progression from their previous 2 albums but lacking in catchy songs in comparison. Still pretty cool I guess.

Though I have Is This It? ranked higher, personally I enjoy this album more. I put Is This It? up there due to its influence, but objectively these songs give me more joy. From the spectacular YOLO, to Red Light, you have A LOT of good indie rock. This album is a complete outlier in their discography, more abrasive and in-your-face than their other records, which gives it its own special charm. Its full of underrated gems; Razorblade, On the Other Side, Electricytscape, and Red Light are all absolutely fantastic songs. If you are a strokes fan, this album is essential.

I honestly really enjoy this album and don't know why people dislike it so much. I guess everyone had high expectations for The Strokes following their debut and even Room on Fire, but I enjoy the more aggressive style on some of these tracks. All I can say is that it feels a bit scattered, so I enjoy the tracks individually more than I do listening to this as a whole.

On the other side and YOLO are great tracks, but aside from that everything is, at much, OK. This is just a terrible album.

The second half is definitely strikingly weak compared to the first but it is still excellent. I love Razorblade so much

First Impressions?
Well the band heard the chatter, time to mix it up

This is awfully long which is initially jarring considering what came before

This band is just too good to say it is bad. But there are duds here which is new

Expectations begin to lower about what The Strokes ceiling can be in regards to their place in music. They come back to earth and fans realize that they aren't quite as revolutionary as we may think.
