Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.0/100, a mean average of 70.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.8.

Although this album has some great tracks, it is overall a bit underwhelming, great ideas, but the result not so.
So they're trying something else now, which is fine, at some moment you have saturated your style and even a real rock-/punker has to switch it up. But what they did was basically not change their style at all and then add the minimal amount gimmicks to make it sound prog: boring intermezzos and synth sounds your dad thinks are "cool". Strokes, don't become like those other '00s poser- I mean indie bands, please.
Overall an amazing album. I think it's my favorite Strokes effort so far. It's confident, experimental and it's such a nice time. Pretty consistent, something that the other 3 don't have, IMO.
My favorite after Is This It. Very underrated.
Pretty cool album. My 3rd favourite for The Strokes. I feel like it influenced much of the more experimental/electronic rock in the past 7 years like Tame Impala and obviously The Voidz.
The second part of the album starts to get boring and more of the same.
Pior álbum do Strokes, mas ainda sim bom.
Until the 6th cut the album is great, then Call Me Back is boring, Gratisfaction is just good, Metabolism is a Muse ripoff and Life is Simple is slightly above average.
Still, better than First Impressions, much less boring.
Favorite Tracks: Under Cover of Darkness, Gratisfaction & Taken for a Fool
