After the magnificence of Vol 3 (The Subliminal Verses), I was looking forward too and excited when this came out. Oh dear, how that turned to disappointment. There's a couple of alright tracks on it but none that are memorable and stand out. As a whole, mediocre at best.
I understand why someone who is into the earlier releases by Slipknot would find this soft or dull or commercial, but I have to say that I (who to be honest couldn't stand listening to their earlier albums) found this quite enjoyable. I don't consider it great, but there are some very catchy songs. Overall, 70/100.
The exact moment they jumped the shark. Expressing anger faithfully took a backseat to corporate appeal.

Generally atrocious. The vocals, alternating as they did between growling and Linkin Park pretension, were particularly off-putting.
The edge is strong within this one. I have nothing against a bit of emo, if it actually sounds good or is well-written. Overall, it has a boring sound and too much filler, even if it has its moments. If not for their self-titled, this would be their best album. Psychosocial and Snuff are geniunely good.

By far the weakest Slipknot album, it's kind of depressing, don't bother listening to the album but to the absolute stand-out tracks that deserve to be on another record entirely - Psychosocial, Snuff, Dead Memories and Sulfur.
