Top 32 Music Albums of 2008
by mrmcrook

A slightly disappointing year as far as albums go. Handful of crackers but most others fall into the 'also ran' category. Studio albums all ahead of any compilations, greatest hits etc. It's only fair on a year list

91.09* This was the best accident ever. Found in a clearance bin for next to nothing. I'd only ever heard one song from them on a compilation I have. Thought 'nothing to lose' so bought it. Fucking loved it. Was the best musical discovery I'd found in many many years. Great right through with no weak points. All hail the Elbow 06/25 [First added to this chart: 10/21/2020]

88.18 This was a very pleasant surprise. Exceeded all expectations. It's a strange one. I feel slightly guilty about having it so highly placed as it's not really musically groundbreaking or different. It's just that it's so bloody good. Top notch right through. Massively under rated

82.72 Shit hot metal album. They combine the elements of power metal, thrash, NWOBHM and classic metal into one. No weak spots on this at all. Very consistent. Top class album. 02/25 [First added to this chart: 10/21/2020]

82.27 With this album a lot of tracks have a faster tempo and a heavier rock sound than this other albums. Great album. Title track being one of my personal favorites from him. There's a couple of fillers but overall the majority of the album is pretty solid. Surprised it's not ranked higher among his catalog. [First added to this chart: 10/21/2020]

80.50* Melancholy bliss but with some oomph. One of the better albums from them. Kicks off well, couple of tracks in the middle dip a bit but it finishes with one of the best songs they've written (Touch Me I'm Going To Scream, Part 2). I've got American Dad to thank for introducing me to them. 06/25 [First added to this chart: 10/21/2020]

79.61 An overlooked and underrated Dandy's album. No singles on it but all solid tracks. Good laid back flow right through. Gotta love the trancey rhythms they do so well. Only complaint is the last track could of been cut down to 4 minutes instead of going on for 14 and a half. 03/24 [First added to this chart: 10/21/2020]

78.33 I can confidently say no band makes me feel as uplifted and happy as I feel after listening to them as Flight of the Conchords do. They are a bundle of absolute joy. Bring a smile to my face every time. I rate these guys as the best parody band there is. The music's varied and good but it's the lyrics that make it. They're fucking hilarious. But then, they're from NZ as am I. Maybe it's just our sense of humour 02/25 [First added to this chart: 11/02/2024]

78.18 This album seems to get panned and labelled as one of their worst. Fuck knows why. I find it one of the better if not best they've done. [First added to this chart: 10/21/2020]

76.50 This is better than it's given credit for. After the debacle of St Anger, I think that soured a lot of peoples view on Metallica. This has good riffs, good rhythms and is a not far off their prime sounding days. Overall, this is decent metal and a decent album. My only gripe is the length of each track. Sometimes more is not always best. 11/24 [First added to this chart: 10/21/2020]

76.25 One which definitely grows on me with each listen. Good flowing laid back rock without being laid back. If that makes any sense. You can very slightly hear the Josh Homme influence in there but the band has an entity all of it's own. 09/22 [First added to this chart: 09/01/2022]
