Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The chart deserves update. There are so many fantastic prog records that 21 is a shortlist of a shortlist. Your choices are brilliant, but many albums I personally love are missing. From Animals to the modern bands such as Porcupine Tree, Opeth etc.

Good lists of mainly good to amazing prog-rock. The Dark Side of the Moon and Selling England by the Pound are my 1&2 aswell. I'm not as big on Yes' Close to the Edge though. Argus looks pretty interesting. I should check it out sometime.
