Top 60 Music Albums of 2013
by 19loveless91

Maintaining a top 60. There are more quite a few more albums that I liked and gave a rating of 75 though (it's silly how I can't seem to dislike much music :/ ).

120ish albums + a few failed listens + 10+ EPs heard so far. About 20 albums I haven't listened to enough to rate them, and some of them I definitely feel like they could eventually end up here (e.g. Quasimoto's Yessir Forever, or Fire's Without Noticing, Engravings...)

One album that I didn't put on this list is bounty by iamamiwhoami, as it's technically a compilation of her 2010-2011 singles, but it would be near my top 10.

Shout out to my favourite EPs of the year:
EP 2 by FKA Twigs
How to Carve a Carrot into a Rose by Courtney Barnett
The Love Club by Lorde

If there's no other comments, just a song title, then that's my track pick for the album..

Oh what did I do now

"Come, let's not insist on "love"
we're just alive"

Soothing voice, ambitious arrangements. Otherwordly.

Track pick (and the poppiest track): This is a True Heart

VW was fun, Contra kinda irritating, here they mature into something special. Intricate production, full of little surprises throughout, but it's all about the lyrics, really. I will go as far as to call them generation defining.

Key lyric:
"Through the fire and through the flames
You won't even say your name
Only "I am what I am"
But who could ever live that way?"
(Ya Hey)

So this is a Macedonian band from a local (Slovenian) label, touring around here constantly, playing some delicious (slightly) noisy post-punkish alt rock, and I only discover them now (2015). It's not even their first album, either.
Anyway, it's fucking brilliant and you all should hear it.

Constantly building up. Not to anything in particular, really. But it's just relentless and intense, yet catchy and danceable. And then with some amazingly soothing ambient moments to cap it off (e.g. the title track)

Key moment: that bit close to the 2 minutes mark in Sun Harmonics where the basses kick in

The feel good album of the year.

While not the best rapper techincally, he makes any weaknesses up with his personality, incredible hooks and melodicism. Pure joy to listen to.

Lyric pick:
But I knew it was fly when I was just a caterpillar
That I'd make it even if I never make a milla,
When I meet my maker he gon' make sure that we chillin'

The 2013's most morbid reminder of your mortality and failings.

Key lyric:
"So much to consider and too much to grasp
To swallow mortality is enough of a task
And leaving your mark is just too much to ask
I’ll just bow my head and leave out the back"

How to use a bunch of guest stars to your favour, or the album that would be more deserving of the title "Bangerz", or why "music that plays in H&M" shouldn't really be an insult.

I mean all of that. It's amazing how an album that sounds basically the same throughout manages to stay fresh. Just one banger after another.

The best colaboration of the year?

Jaar makes something that I prefer to his already great Space is Only Noise, and it is due to the contributions from Dave Harrington.

Perfect example of that: Paper Trails. Great guitar work and an incredible atmosphere.

The best Fiona Apple-esque titled album of the year.

Bittersweet is a good word to describe this I think.

"I am one and the same
I am useful and strange"

Did you know Grimes dated the Magical Cloudz guy? Ugh, talk about slumming it

Anyways this chart brings back beautiful, exciting, painful memories. Also needs some more daisies and a lot more rage
