Top 40 Greatest Music Albums

A few things.
1. This is not a greatest albums list, more a favorite albums to listen to list. More specifically a favorite albums to listen to all the way through list ( which seems to be a rarer and rarer quality in albums as time passes). This was insanely difficult to narrow down to 40 albums. my music is so rapidly changing (for instance a relatively new band like Vampire Weekend might not make the cut in a week).
2. I tried not to double up appearances by artist, or else the list would be dominated by The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and so on, rather I chose my favorite of that particulat artist.
3. I tried to pick a wide range of artists, from different genres, eras, etc.
Some of the albums that appear are purely situational, such as Tom Waits " Nighthawks at the Diner" ; an almost perfect album to put on, and sit around late at night and drink coffee and smoke to.
Or even humor with Teancious D's self titled album ( Don't be fooled though, those guys play excellent music.)
So don't be too hard on me, most of these albums are familiar, and some even seme cliched, but remember they got that way for a reason.
Feel free to rip it apart, I love when people argue about musicicans or bands and their merit, or place, it just concretes what we all really already know, that music is all opinion and no one should be able to change someone elses mind on what they like.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
