Top 500 Albums of All Time

You can't have grestest hits albums in your chart. It's just not right! An album is a moment in time not a collection of songs across a period of years. I have a number of favs that are compliations (Decade by Neil Young for example) but they don't have a place in a chart. A bit lazy of RS I'm afraid.

I have tons of respect for The Beatles, Bob Dylan, the Stones, The Who, and all the other greats from the 60's and 70's. I just find this Top 500 list pathetic and way too biased.

First off, if you're going to make a top albums list, you are not going to put in compilations. They are just bits and pieces from other albums and destroys the context of an album. If it were a compilation of songs/recordings never released in studio albums, like singles, that may be a different story, but still, looses the context of the album.

Secondly, and others have pointed this out, there are way too many Beatles on the list. They're great, but they literally dominate the top ten, and Please Please Me has gone too far in the top 50!

Third off, there is not enough material from after 1980, and most of them are compilations of artists from the fifties to the seventies! Not only you gained this complaint from me, but you made me reinforce my first complaint. I don't care if they have yet "stood the test of time." If you were making this list in the early 70's, would you not put any Beatles because they haven't "stood the test of time" yet?

Fourth, I think part of this complaining is due to the generation gap between us. Feel free to pity me while I have the right to pity you.

There are people who will tell you that all the best rock songs come from the 1960s and '70s, the Golden Age of Genius-Level Hall of Fame Rock Immortals. These people are called baby-boomers, and they’re the same people who are bankrupting Social Security and invented the male ponytail.

This list is a joke. Only TWO albums by the greatest band ever, Pink Floyd. Also Sgt. Pepper's as good of an album it is is not even the best Beatles album let alone best ever. Also a disgrace that the greatest album ever, Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd didn't even make the list.

I agree that they don't recognize modern stuff well, but you have to take it for what it is. To be fair, true test of an album's greatness is how it stands the test of time... something the modern albums have t had to do yet. With the passing of time, modern albums will find themselves on this list.
