Why worry about Dire Straits being cool or not? They're such a pleasant listen. A genre called "smooth rock" should be invented solely for Dire Straits' music. Even the most edgy track, "Money for Nothing", isn't edgy at all. It's an uplifting, harmless walk of life chock-full of hits.

I never thought I would like this ugly and dirty style of Tom Waits as much as I do. To me, it represents the sound of having spend too much time in sleazy bars! "Time" is an astonishingly unique and beautiful ballad that you you need to check out if you haven't already.

It was just a matter of time before The Beach Boys released their self-titled album. It's getting late in their career, something you'll notice when you hear the shockingly slick 80s production. Only recommendable if you're a big fan of either The Beach Boys or overproduced 80s pop. Fortunately, I'm both!

The sequel to "Music for Airports" because of its similar calming Muzak-like atmosphere, though in contrast I'd describe its melody more as "cluster-melodic" and independent of any timing. Relaxing, very, and not only in Thursday afternoons!

Oh yeah! This is a really cool and groovy album that creates some pretty interesting, dark moods. If you got desire for music that isn't like any other music (and probably desire for something else too), this is the way to go!

Fabulous! Bloated too, but isn't it how albums like these are supposed to to be? Barbra definitely show off with some broad showtunes here.

Once upon a time there was a decade called the 80s. The band Simple Minds were alive and kicking. They made this album and also released a single called "Don't You (Forget About Me)". Perhaps kinda redundant to say, but it was a magnificent time!

On the surface a typical 80s synthpop album, but listen to the backing vocals (and pretty much anything that isn't Sandra's vocals). It should sound familiar if you've ever listened to Enigma. Another connection to Enigma is hit single "(I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena", which seems to have the inspiration of religion/spirituality in common. Less trivia-oriented is the fact that Sandra's voice is quite powerful and expressive, so it isn't that typical 80s pop!

Have a listen to the songs from the big chair. Everybody wants to rule the world and with songs this big and anthemic, Tears for Fears nearly did so. Good 80s new wave/pop to shout along to!

In between their more gothic stuff, The Cure really pushes themselves in terms of coming up with skilfully crafted pop tunes. A lot brighter than what they're usually known for!
