Top 10 Greatest Music Albums
by BasedLord13 Unknown

This chart was very difficult to make for some albums were only better than others by a very slight margin. For example, I was very hard pressed between choosing Illmatic or My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy as the best hip-hop album made.

Currently the greatest record I have ever had the blessing to listen to. It lulls you into a relaxing, meditative slumber and then injects your mind with a feeling of vague yet great anxiety, fear, paranoia, and awe. A very frightening yet beautiful album that reflects upon the anxiety and excitement of the internet age, a corrupt and scary world of political shysters, tragedies, and rapidly evolving technology (human / animal cloning, government surrvelliance, etc.). It also ponders the surreal awe of experiencing all of this as a living, breathing human. 10/10 [First added to this chart: 04/14/2014]

One of the first albums that I could fully immerse myself in while blocking out reality. Thick, layered waves of heavily manipulated guitar take over your mind and heads straight to the part of your brain that experiences emotion and can perhaps sound erotic. It's like 2 innocent young lovers making love for the first time. It's the rush of touching skin to skin and embracing someone else like your world means nothing but that person. Surreal erotic bliss. 10/10 [First added to this chart: 04/14/2014]

United States Nas
The first hip-hop record that I fell completely in love with as well as encourage me to explore the genre further. A hazy time capsule of a young black male in early 90s New York City experiencing life in its streets. Its a timeless story of drug dealers, gang bangers, youthful recklessness, as well as celebrating life and showing that New York City is a place filled with meaningful people, places, and events. There are plenty of stories similar to this, but Nas's story telling and rapping abilities against DJ Premier's brilliant production creates a unique environment sealed by time that can never be imitated. 10/10 [First added to this chart: 04/14/2014]

Arguably one of hip-hop's most interesting personalities, Kanye West has put forth a masterpiece of an album that few albums in hip-hop history can compete with. Production, ego, and emotion are on full display here and are blown up to an extreme so big that it becomes surreal. This is Kanye celebrating himself and putting his vision forward, while facing his inner demons and with the mass media of celebrity culture breathing down his neck. Like the album title, this is his beautiful, dark, twisted fantasy. 10/10 [First added to this chart: 04/14/2014]

A cinematic film on loneliness and isolation in a world of corruption, greed for money and power, loss of freedom, government control, uncertainty, and rapidly evolving computer technology. It's all done so beautifully and gracefully though. This is because Radiohead has the outstanding talent and creativity to do so, creating a layered world of weeping guitar leads, electronic glitches, twinkling keyboards, and plenty of other sounds to create what is arguably one of the best records of the 90s. 10/10 [First added to this chart: 04/14/2014]

The Moon & Antarctica is a record about the end of the world and how small it truly is. This is a world filled with a barrage of advertisement, abandoned shopping malls, anti-depressives, and a lost sense of purpose. Modest Mouse ponders at life's purpose and ones place in the universe as everything falls apart. They try to grasp it and fight for it with everything that they got before its all lost. 10/10 [First added to this chart: 04/14/2014]

Very loud, staticy, and mezmorizing pop. The blaring guitar is so dominant that it seems to drown out everything else, yet it is mind blowing. What may usually be considered as blatant noise eventually becomes meditative and not too later addicting. My Bloody Valentine's first (but there are better things to come) masterpiece. 10/10 [First added to this chart: 04/14/2014]

With Pinkerton, instead of experiencing intimate and intense love like Loveless, you are on the outside looking in. This is a record for anyone who has desparately wanted to fall in love so badly that it makes them feel sick but couldn't find the means to. Jealousy, lust, voyeurism, and desparation surround this record so much that it becomes very relatable to anyone who is in the same boat. 10/10 [First added to this chart: 04/14/2014]

This is what city life for the mid to late 20 something or so geeky male riddled with ADHD sounds like. It's a record of wanderlust, sexual frustration, and trying to keep your cool in social situations as well as your sanity in general. Jittering synths, schitzofrenic drum patterns, and tight pop melodies help play out each scenario. This is the sound of making a bigger deal out of things than they usually are, and it's wonderful. 10/10 [First added to this chart: 04/14/2014]

One of the greatest pop stars to ever live, Thriller is Michael Jackson at his peak. He had a voice like no one else that reached new heights of human achievement. Every song is perfectly made to showcase his talents with fantastic production that put a permanent stamp on the way pop music would sound. It's influence is very huge, and is one of the biggest selling records ever made. This was the sound of the 80s in all of its glory. 9.5/10 [First added to this chart: 04/14/2014]
