Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 83.3/100, a mean average of 78.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.8/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 15.8.

Nice one mate love your chart see the boo album giant steps at number one just love it got it in my top 50. You have a good mix of albums on some i've heard and some not. I've tried to do good mix on mine and not just put Dylan,Bowie,Stones and Floyd altho i love them all. The albums i have listed are ones that i could put on today and just loose my self as if i was reading a good book or watching a good film. Giant steps i got when it came out in 1993 and from i hang suspended nothing else maters just that record all the stress at work is forgotten just awesome.

Some of your choices are new to the site, but a lot of them aren't. Click on the titles. Take a semi-obscure one like the Gun Club, for example. I think five other people have that on their chart. Anyways, if you're a huge music fan, you'll find a lot of like-minded souls on here. Check out people's charts and visit the forums and who knows? You may yet discover an album or artist you didn't know about. Welcome to Best Ever Albums!

Very Good point there, Mr. Shankly. And you are right, I did edit the Top portion of my List here. I guess, I am looking more at the Overall picture, rather than there are a few or even several people who have 'unique' entries within their lists. I was kind of surprised that a few choices I picked weren't even used before. I guess at first coming here, I just expected more variety, than more of the same 'ole Rolling Stone list re-hashed again and again. It does show that a certain album does affect multiple people and the ratings are high, but not user after user! With millions of albums out there, and seeing the same 150 or so used again and again...I don't know, either people don't go out and search for 'new' and interesting music or we have a shortage of All-Time Great albums. I'll take the former. I am not trying to sound rude at all, just a BIG music fan, looking for 'new' and interesting music, as I Love viewing 'Best Of' lists. I know that the overall list is based on everyone's list, but there definitely is a shortage of originality on many that I have viewed. I, personally would like to see more variety. Seeing a 'unique' album on my list rated/ranked/or favorited less than 10 times over the entire site, or not at all, shows people don't go out searching for music that appeals to them, only music that appeals to the masses. I was actually hoping to find an album on this site that was listed highly and 'new' to me, but I guess I have to go to rateyourmusic.com for that to happen.

You raise an interesting point and there are a lot of albums that come up again and again on charts; one could argue that that's because certain albums affect multiple people profoundly or that people are swayed by critical opinion. Probably both are true to some extent. But I also think you're making a generalization. There are several members who have very unique charts. Dig deeper. One way to do this is to click on the album title of one of your "unique" picks and see which other members have that album on their list. I guarantee you most of these appear on other lists. By the way, some people have unique charts that are also really bad lol. As for your chart, I've heard and own about half of them and personally, although Giant Steps, Mezcal Head, Perfect from Now On, and Either/Or are all solid, enjoyable albums, they don't make it to the upper echelon for me personally. And yeah, I know SF Sorrow preceded Tommy as the first rock opera. I had it on CD for a while, and eventually decided it wasn't that great. When you make a statement about being original or true to oneself in your intro,it might make people think your chart is contrived--something to think about.

Yeah, I see what you are saying, mikeyskywalker, and Thank you for your comment/rating, but it has nothing to with with TRYING to be unique...I mean these are simply my All-Time favorite albums, regardless if there is a site to show them or not. 'Giant Steps' by The Boo Radleys have been my favorite album for over 7 years now. So..it is focused on the music, not just by eclectic tastes. It's not that I am trying to be unique with my favorites, they just simply are. I do feel like some people rate their favorites by looking at the BIG names and the Top ratings and base their favorites off that. It's not that I am telling people to be unique, but it seems to be fishy that many people choose the same albums over and over again. I think if people made their own lists w/o looking at magazine's favorites or their peers, lists will be a lot different and show more originality overall.
