Top 100 Greatest Music Albums
by CameronMB

After some careful consideration, I've decided to limit any individual artist to 3 albums on this chart. Almost every Beatles, Peter Gabriel, and Steely Dan album could be on this chart... but I'd rather incorporate a greater variety of artists. This is going to entail some serious reorganization but I expect the list to be closer to final form by 2015.

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 81.2/100, a mean average of 76.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.4/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 21.0.

Wow, completely unexpected, unashamed chart. Who has the guts to put Led Zeppelin IV in their list at #96, two below Linda Ronstadt's What's New?!? Bold.

This chart is one of the most unique chart I've seen. The mixture of so many genres while still looking awesome is great. I loved your techno/ambient/electronic choices Aphex Twin, Fatboy Slim, Orbital, Prodigy, etc.
I'm still way behind in getting to listen to many classic albums from the 60's, 70's and 80's, but this a looks like a great guide.

Brilliant chart.

The chart is getting better and better.
Wide range of interests - love the jazz picks and I like to see some african music(I yet don´t know the certain albums).
Some very good rare picks as well: "Unkel Meat" is one of my favourita Zappa´s, "Rei Momo" is funny, "Belonging" is brilliant (maybe you should listen to "Nude Ants" it´s live and even better) ...and I like "From Genesis To Revelation", it´s so pure and innocent and it has lovely tunes.
Very good idea: no more than 3 per artist.

Good and undogmatic chart.
It`s just too redundant because there are too many albums of your top 3 bands.
It`s a bit annoying to see always the same musicians if I go through your chart.
Like it anyway.
