It seems kooky to include a greatest hits in your top records. But this is the 1st record I recall hearing. I was 3. I put my ear right close the speakers. I remember the woofers pounding. The depth of sound was overwhelming. It opened me up to a life long love of music.

A perfect record. I heard this first in Jr. High I think. Through the wall that connected my room to my sisters'. A few years later, I dived into it full bore. What a masterpiece! The best of the Beatles (maybe!).

Such a fantastic record! So many stellar rock songs, embedded in Christian mythos. My first real intro to rock and religion. What more can I say?

I still recall the strange fascination I felt learning Dylan wrote Blowing in the Wind and not Peter Paul and Mary. And then the rest. The stripped down acoustic guitar licks. The biting, meaningful lyrics. Still potent in the 1980s. Potent for all time. The perfect emotional deliveries. Divine.

This record grows on you like mold. Like stinky cheese. Like black socks that never get dirty. Severe comfort music! Like that couch you never throw out. Soothing the soul. Foul yet familiar. People didn't have finished basements then! The basement was where they kept the pickled remains. Where the children were allowed to play on rainy days!

A fabulous black beauty. Ridiculous in its perfection. An ode to silence. Where did all these sounds come from? It must have taken 1000 years to create.
