Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

If this chart were a car, a group of men would now be standing round it with arms folded, nodding approval at it's incorporation of classic lines and emotive styling, which belie the presence of the raw power which lurks beneath the glittering paint job atop a.... erm, er, ahem, sorry, what was I talking about?... oh yes, nice chart!

That could be a great chart if it includes MJ,but sorry for me,any chart which doesn't inlude at least one MJ album isn't valable.

As a reply I can only write: YOU should listen to some NEW music...
most of the records you included I own (except for the jazz ones as I prefer newer jazz: Skalpel, Cinematic), but no-one can make me rate Led Zeppelin better than Mars Volta, or Feelies (WOW - you are truly a hero of a critic) higher than Radiohead... go to hell and stop judging what did I listen (or not) by this 39 albums that made it on my list...

Awesome list. An obvious music lover with some great jazz listings. Sounds like someone I would enjoy hangin with and discussing music with. The true earmark of a great list.

Awesome, original chart! While I love nearly all of your selections, Rock Bottom stands out as an album that is far too often overlooked, or unknown.
