This is a pop rock essential and my personal favorite of the year. Half the tracks are instant classics and the remainder are strong.

If the whole album was as good as its four best tracks, this would be a 5-star classic. It's still really good, if a little inconsistent.

This is Tom Waits at his Tom-Waits-iest. It's the definitive album of the sound he's most known for. While I prefer his earlier sound, it's hard not to like this strange mix of bar piano, art-house jazz, and sea shanty.

They would be a forgettable pop soul band but for Hucknall's singing and he was never better than he was here. This is a consistent collection with the standout "Holding Back the Years," which makes my list of best songs ever written.
